At Promethean Theatre Ensemble, we believe that the process of creating a play is as vital as the performance itself. Central to our mission is the conviction that abuse is not art. We are committed to fostering safe, respectful, and inclusive creative spaces for all our artists and collaborators, which we have codified in our internal Bill of Rights, Code of Conduct, and Conflict Resolution Path.
As we await the conclusion of the Jeff Committee’s internal review, expected on July 1st, we have decided that we will not be inviting the Jeff Awards Committee to adjudicate our upcoming production of Anouilh’s Antigone. Consequently, this production will not be submitted for award consideration.
Our decision reflects a commitment to our community’s well-being. It is our sincere hope that this review process will bring about a requirement for serious allegations against award nominees to be thoroughly investigated before award decisions are made, and leads to a satisfactory resolution that prioritizes the safety of Chicago theatre-makers.
We remain hopeful for a future of collaborative improvement across our industry. Until then, we will continue to focus our energy on creating a rehearsal room where art flourishes without compromising the dignity or safety of those who make it.
Thank you for your continued support of our work and our values.
