One night in the fall of 2005, a group of Northwestern graduates sat in the dark on a Chicago porch, about to make an idea become a reality. For over a year, a circle of actors had been meeting monthly in living rooms around the city to read scripts together. After each reading, a discussion ensued about how the group would produce the play “if we had a company.” That night the “if” became a “when” and Promethean Theatre Ensemble began its first chapter.

Since then, PTE has been focused on bringing simple and effective storytelling to Chicago audiences. In truth, we want each Promethean production to hearken back to our roots – those intimate living room readings, taking journeys into unfamiliar territory but with good friends. With each performance, Promethean’s actors guide the audience through their journey, no matter if the play is a comedy or drama, no matter what era. We continue to build our ensemble with actors and associates dedicated to inspiring audiences and giving them a familiar place to watch theatre come alive.
